C.2.2. What is happens to the food we eat?

Point 1: Mouth - Food broken down into smaller pieces by chewing and partly digested by our saliva which contains digestive juices.
Point 2: Gullet / OesophagusA passage which partly digested food enters the stomach. (Digestion does not take place)
Point 3: StomachA bag-like structure which stretches when food collects in it. It releases digestive juices and food is partly digested. Food usually stays in it for 3 to 4 hours.
Point 4: Small IntestineIt releases more digestive juices and food is completely digested. Completely digested food passes through its walls into the numerous capillaries and into the bloodstream.
Point 5: Large IntestineFood that cannot be digested enters here. Water in undigested food is reabsorbed and becomes solid waste.
Point 6: AnusSolid waste from the large intestine is passed out from our body.
